It’s quite a journey getting there – what with stowing away on a aeroplane and getting stuck in the desert. “A female elephant as vast as a baobab tree was standing in the shadows of the forest, flapping her ears menacingly. ![]() Much like Martine in this story who learns to understand them more closely. Namibia is indeed the home of these magnificent creatures – intelligent and graceful despite their size, they lives in a whole community of elephants and can sense panic and fear from far away. ![]() When the grandmother tries to find help by returning to England, Martine and her friend Ben go to Namibia as they’ve heard a prophecy that ‘elephants will lead you to the truth’ Now Jemmy risks becoming the star attraction of the zoo that developers plan to build on the land when they sell the game reserve from under Martine’s grandmother’s feet. She first came to this place as an orphan to come and live with the grandmother and at first it was strange and isolating but now she has made friends with all the animals and has even tamed a white giraffe named Jemmy who she rides around on. Sawubona Game Reserve near Cape Town in South Africa is the beloved home and playground of Martine. ![]()
